Today, I practiced sketching a chocolate donut while looking at a reference book. This sketch took about 15 minutes to complete.

This reference book introduces a method called 60-second drawing. While you can’t create a beautiful picture in 60 seconds, you can learn the rough composition.
I think in art schools, you learn about composition and other fundamentals through sketching. However, since I started learning to draw as an adult, I ended up skipping sketching and focusing on using paints. In other words, because I don’t understand composition or shading, I struggle with not being able to create beautiful artwork.
So, I decided to start by practicing with 60-second drawings to understand composition and shading.
Before drawing the artwork at the beginning of this article, I created the following sketch using the 60-second drawing method.

The final piece turned out completely different from the sample in the reference book. I’m not good at capturing the overall structure, so I end up spending a lot of time making adjustments when working on the finer details.
I will continue to do my best in practicing drawing.
